NSSA-NSCA and the National Shooting Complex welcome Nichole (Nicki) Broekhove-Martin as their new Marketing Coordinator. Nicki comes to us after spending more than 10 years in the newspaper advertising industry, where she gained a vast knowledge in all venues of marketing from print to digital, with experience in advertising, social media strategy, e-marketing and event planning. “I am passionate about what I do and doing it well,” Nicki commented. Jon Kruger dominated the Northeast Regional Sporting Clays Championship at M&M Hunting Preserve & Sporting Clays over the weekend, finishing six targets ahead of runner-up Wendell Cherry and third-place Mike Wilgus. In the National FITASC competition, Kevin De Michiel was champion, while Zachary Kienbaum was runner-up and Gebben Miles third. Carolyn Smith was Lady champion of the Regional Championship, and Jenni Clark won the National FITASC Lady competition. Hillsdale College will hold its third annual Liberty and Learning Youth Conference July 9-12, 2012. Students ages 15-18 are invited this summer to study the principles of Constitutional government and free-market economics while practicing marksmanship at the Hillsdale College Shooting Sports Center. A Constitutional Essay Contest will award one participant a $4,000 Hillsdale College scholarship. Cost is $500 per student, which includes transfers from Detroit airport, meals, residence hall lodging, and program activities. The 525 targets thrown in Men’s Skeet during the two-part U.S. Olympic Team Trials weren’t nearly enough to decide one of the nominees for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Sunday in Tucson, AZ. For three worthy adversaries, Olympic fate would go to sudden-death with a 25-target shoot-out. The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) is offering schools the opportunity to receive — free of charge — educational videos about firearm safety and wildlife conservation. The firearm safety videos help teach students how to react when encountering a firearm in an unsupervised situation. The conservation titles educate students on how wildlife and wild lands are protected, and how hunters support this effort with contributions amounting to more than $1 billion annually. NSSF believes all teachers and their students, whether in public, private or home schools, can benefit from the important messages in the videos, which are contained on two DVDs. We regret to report that Al Anglace, founder of Connecticut Travelers Sporting Clays, has passed away. In June, 1987, Al Anglace and six friends started a monthly shoot that grew into the Connecticut Travelers Sporting Clays Association, a club that now has over 500 members and a mission to support sporting clays. Al was a stalwart of the sport, a community leader, and a major influence on the Connecticut Travelers as well as the sport of sporting clays. Hundreds of young people and ladies are shooting today because they got a chance to shoot with the Travelers, thanks to Al’s emphasis on bringing juniors and women into the sport. The North American FITASC Grand Prix event that was to have been held in Calgary, Alberta, in July has been moved to a new venue and rescheduled to allow better attendance and help grow the event. It will now be hosted by Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club in Prior Lake, MN, in conjunction with the Players Championship and Gun Makers Showdown on Friday, June 15 through Sunday, June 17. The event has also been designated as a Team USA FITASC selection shoot. Dave Peckham from England will set the targets for the shoot.
